Technical seminar by Masao Kagawa Shihan was held in Ireland from March 6th to 7th.
The seminars were geld in two venues.
Sunday March 6th was held in St Patricks College in Dublin city. there were three classes.The seminar was attended by some 110.
The first class was for Kyu grades. Kagawa Shihan concentrated on basic Kihon. He focused particularly on stance training. There were many sore muscles after training.
The second class was for All grades. Shihan again worked on correct stance training. He followed this by going through “Jo No Kata” and the “Heian kata”. The message was
that everyone must maintain the correct standard of JKS kata. He emphasised the importance of not changing any elements of the original kata. He made many important points on all kata.
The third class was for Black/brown belts. In this class we worked on Shodan/Nidan syllabus. Shihan focused on correct punching and power generation. He followed this with
“Bassai Dai”/ “Jion” kata and bunkai.
Mondays class was held in JKS Ireland Honbu dojo.
This class was a kumite class. We had around 24 people in attendance. Shihan worked on conditioning and kumite drills. We also worked on partner drills with two and then three
Dermot OKeeffe Sensei said “All in all the weekends training was very well received and all are looking forward to seeing Kagawa Shihan return to Ireland next year.”.
